  • The Art of Songwriting…and other thoughts

Posted by LaZae on February 9, 2007

Man was last month crazy! I worked like 18 hour days all month!  It was fun and exhausting which is probably why it all ended with me getting the flu….not fun.

Anyway, I’ve written 4 songs with some very talented producers since my last post, all for other artists. I’m hoping one of the songs will get picked up. I’ve been really focusing on improving my melody writing and trying to make my hooks as catchy as possible. I’ve also been re-analyzing other writers’ work to really understand the key elements that create a hit song.

Because we were so busy last month, I started getting used to writing ANYWHERE. Writing melodies in my head if I was in a location where I couldn’t sing them out loud, in the studio, in the car. Just getting my ideas out no matter what. One thing I’ve observed by watching successful producers and songwriters work is that they work ALL the time! If you want to work on that level then you have to start mirroring yourself after those who have already acheived the level of success that you want to acheive. I think that is true in pretty much any field, but it’s so easy to forget that. It’s so easy to focus on the end result and not focus on the journey and all of the hard work that needs to be done along the way. So that’s what I am focusing on now. Luck is definitely preparation meeting opportunity and I want to be really lucky!

    xoxo,

    Felice

    Everything sounds really interesting.

You’re right about how we have to mirror the people who are already successful in the field we want to be in. That’s some really great advice that I have been hearing a lot, but not always following.

Good for you, though. Here’s hoping you DO get really lucky. :)
