Support Health Parity!
I just talked to my congressman!!! Ok, well not directly
….but I did speak the health issues staffer about a very important bill that needs to be passed. It felt better than voting! Because I actually got to give them information about the bill and let my voice be heard by a real person that will pass the information along. This all started because I’m a member of the Recording Academy (the organization behind the The GRAMMY’S) and I get email updates from them every so often on issues related to the arts and music community. A few days ago they sent me an email about supporting the the Paul Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act – H.R. 1424. Here’s what the email said about the bill:“This legislation would work to end insurance discrimination against people with mental illness and addiction, and thus allow more music people in crisis to access the critical treatment they deserve. The Act has passed the Senate and will be considered by the House of Representatives in days.”
The email then gave info on where to contact your representative in Congress to support H.R. 1424. So, if anybody out there reading this, supports the ideas behind this bill (which you totally don’t have to in order to be my friend, but I’d love it if you did
) then click here to Support Health Parity, find out how to contact your representative and exercise your right as a constituent of this country!!!Ok I’m done with my civil rights activist speech for today…gotta go back to songwriting
